03-20-17  The rule of five seconds works for You and Your Ukrainian Lady
In Great Britain, Anthony Hilton, a professor at the University of Aston in Birmingham, has proved that the so-called five-second rule is true, The Independent reports.
Five-second rule is one of the most popular beliefs in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, and Japan, about the possibility of safe eating foods that have fallen to the floor. Men and women from Eastern Europe often use this rule as well.

According to this "rule", products falling to the ground or floor can be safely eaten if they are raised within five seconds. This is supposedly due to the fact that any microbes that will be able to get to fallen food during this time will be in so small quantity that they are easily destroyed by stomach acid.

A British scientist made his statement after a series of experiments. But he made a stipulation at once: everything works only under the condition that the visible dirt did not stick, and the surface of the food product was flat, and not rough.
"Obviously, you can not eat food on which there is a visible layer of dirt, but from a scientific point of view, if there are no visible signs of contamination, then the chance of getting harmful food for food in a few seconds is very small," Hilton explained.

This rule is used as a suitable justification for the ability to eat a meal picked from the floor and is usually only used in the presence of several people. For example, a person can drop a candy on the floor, but then quickly raise it, telling friends: "The rule of five seconds!" - and eat.

The origin of the rule of five seconds remains unknown.
