Aug’20 - Saint Stephen's Day in Hungary |
Saint Stephen's Day is the greatest national holiday that is celebrated with day-long festivities and fireworks throughout the country. On this day, Hungarians celebrate King Stephen (the first king of Hungary) and the founding of the Hungarian state. The most important events in Budapest take place around the St. Stephen's Basilica (the most important Catholic basilica in Budapest). This is where the procession of the Holy Right Hand starts.
Festivities start in the morning with the raising of the Hungarian flag and continue all day long culminating in a spectacular fireworks display over the Danube.
